Dr. Abigail Haake Performed for March 15 Cathedral Concert
Concert Program
Presenting music of Nicolas Bruhns, Johann Sebastian Bach, Gerald Near,
Sarah MacDonald, Margaret Sandresky, Carson Cooman, and Mary Beth Bennet.
Dr. Haake holds the Doctor of Musical Arts and Master of Music degrees in organ performance from the University of Michigan, where she studied with Marilyn Mason and a Bachelor of Arts in music performance from West Virginia Wesleyan College, where she studied with Melody Meadows. Her additional teachers include James Kibbie, Robert Glasgow, Rose Kirn, and Edward Parmentier.
Prior to coming to Ohio, Dr. Haake served as the Associate Director of Music and Organist at Madison Street United Methodist Church in Clarksville, TN. A passionate advocate for early childhood music education, she owns “Kindermusik With Abby Haake,” and has offered early childhood music classes since 2012. Dr. Haake has served churches in Michigan, North Carolina, and West Virginia and has taught on the music faculties at West Virginia Wesleyan College and Murray State University.
Dr. Haake executed classics and new music with precision, artistry, and virtuosic playing. She bookended the program with Nicolaus Bruhns (1665-1697) and Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750). In the middle were pieces by contemporary composers who were inspired by the classics, providing a continuation and bridge between old and new.
Each piece was a gift to the audience. We look forward to her next recital!
